INDICATORS OF SUSTAINABILITY AS A TOOL FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF APA POUSO ALTO

Abstract

Research towards the methodology called Barometer of Sustainability as one indicator of sustainability for the management of APA Pouso Alto conservation unit, located at Chapada dos Veadeiros region. At this research it’s presented the context of creation of this conservation unit, as well the approval of its management plan. The proposal of implementing the methodology of Barometer of Sustainability wants to optimize the management of the APA, thru a tool of evaluation that will lead to public policies for the region, as well to help the five-year review of the management plan. The Barometer of Sustainability was chosen as a proposal of solution to bring real sustainability to the APA because it has admeasurement components of human well being and ecosystem well being. It appears to be a methodology of simple application, once it can be applied in many scales, from the evaluation of Brazil, states, river basins, and municipalities. It’s major challenge is the political will of the managing institution of the APA, in a way that a possible solution would be creating a project with the partnership of environmental NGOs.
