THE AGRICULTURAL WAY OF LIFE AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO FORMING ENVIRONMENTAL CITIZENS

Abstract
The presence of vast economic, political, social, environmental and human conflicts make it relevant and justifiable the formation of a new person, who has in his origin, a citizen capable of comprehending his role in society and, when supported by ethical principles and on the idea of alterity, takes on his responsibilities towards the others. This new subject, fruit of the necessities arisen due to the intervention of the man himself in the nature, is denominated of environmental citizen. The objective of this article is to present, from the results of an empirical research, approaches that can contribute to the formation of the environmental citizen; as well as to verify if the agroecological models of production can be considered practices of environmental citizenship. Therefore, the qualitative method was used. There was also a field research. Were identified approaches which can contribute to the environmental citizen awareness were presented. Thus, the ideas regarding environmental and social protection; responsibility; community participation; alterity; environmental ethic; equity; solidarity and spirituality were formed.
