RURAL CREDIT AND BANANA CREDIT: STUDY OF THE DEMAND FOR AGRICULTURAL CREDIT FOR BANAKERS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF PERUÍBE-SP

Abstract

The city of Peruíbe is located in the State of São Paulo, integrating the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista. The main agricultural activity in the municipality, historically, is banana production. The objective of the research was to identify the demand for agricultural credit for banana growers in the Municipality of Peruíbe in the 2017-2018 biennium, in addition to analyzing the expectation of increased profitability with these credits by producers and the difficulties encountered by those who sought them out. A descriptive research with a quantitative approach was developed, applying a questionnaire to fourteen banana growers who market their products in open markets in the city, chosen at random. The study showed that, although producers operate with a low technological level, serious land problems, both in terms of documentation and land occupation, developing family subsistence agriculture, banana-growing activities have the potential to boost the agricultural sector. of the municipality of Peruíbe/SP, depending, however, on actions that allow this growth, among which the granting of agricultural credit stands out. Among those who appeared as proponents of rural credit, the barriers found were the high cost and document difficulty. It is proposed to create, in partnership with the bodies involved such as the City Hall, CATI and Financial Institutions, a financial education program for farmers in the region, hoping to increase the level of knowledge of farmers about agricultural credit, from the decision of which credit line is adhering to your business, passing through the requirements for classification to the way to manage the acquired credits.
