DISINFECTION OF SANITARY SEWAGE USING PERACETIC ACID
Main Article Content
Abstract
The sanitary sewage disinfection process aims to decrease pathogenic microorganisms in water transmission consequently an improvement in public health indexes. In this paper the use of peracetic acid (PAA) in the disinfection of sanitary sewage after the tertiary treatment process was investigated. The microorganisms used as indicators of contamination were total coliforms (TC) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) analyzed by the colilert technique. It was possible to observe inactivation for TC and E. coli for the applied concentration of 12 mg L-1 of PAA in a contact time of 20 minutes, presenting potential for efficient disinfection.
