Main Article Content
Abstract
Understanding and visualizing the impacts of waste in civil construction are extremely difficult tasks, especially when there is no good controlled planning of the company's actions and the works that are being carried out. It is possible to observe in the civil construction sector that there is a control over waste in relation to materials, but the waste of labor, as unnecessary flows of employees, often goes unnoticed by managers. There are several methods and tools that can be used to alleviate this problem, one of them is the Lean Construction philosophy, a philosophy adapted by Lauri Koskela of the Toyota Production System (STP), which was created to assist construction managers to innovate the way of execution of activities, both in conversion and flow work. Therefore, this research sought to understand the origins of the concept of lean production, and its adaptation for civil construction. In addition to conceptualizing the philosophy, the application of the eleven principles of Lean Construction was analyzed in a construction company in Greater Florianópolis-SC, also presenting the main improvements achieved and difficulties faced in its implementation. Through this analysis it was possible to identify the improvements that the concept brought to the construction company in question, despite the difficulties faced in its implementation, which requires a strong change in the way of seeing a construction process, the company achieved good results with the reduction of waste, previously ignored by the traditional model of construction.
