ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: ACADEMIC OF THE FUTURE

Abstract

This article was developed for the Environmental Education Extension Project – Academic of the Future and was brought out by students enrolled in the Environmental Management and Sustainability subject at the University of Southern Santa Catarina – UNISUL. The purpose of this theme is the integration between the academic community and the external community based on the development of environmental education activities carried out with the students of the young learners of the SEST SENAT. This Project involved a descriptive study, based on a qualitative approach, developing sustantability awareness workshops, focused on reduction and reuse of solid waste. The activities also provided a discussion about the environmental responsibility. Lastly, based on the results obtained it was concluded that the environmental education topic in the school areas are not prioritized and we must start encouraging student's critical thinking about the environmental issues.
