ANALYSIS OF SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN A HOUSING SET: A STUDY IN VILLA DAS JAQUEIRAS, JABOATÃO DOS GUARARAPES-PE

Abstract

It was found that there is a lack of studies focusing on the needs and deficiencies of solid waste management in residential condominiums. Given this reality, the analysis of the solid waste management of Villa das Jaqueiras, vertical condominium of the “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” program, located in the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, state of Pernambuco, was analyzed, identifying the profile of the owners and the treatment given to the solid waste, both by the administrators and by the residents. The understanding of the condominium community about solid waste was investigated, through the application of a questionnaire with the condominium community, and the knowledge of the administrators, through audio-recorded interviews, with previously elaborated questions. Finally, the solid waste generated by the residents was quantitatively and qualitatively characterized. As result, superficial levels of knowledge about solid waste management were identified by those responsible for the condominium. A Solid Waste Management Program proposal was also prepared, oriented towards housing purposes, suitable for a condominium with residential purpose, where the document describes all the treatment given to solid waste, from packaging in the waste center until destination.
