CASE STUDY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF EXCAVATION SOILS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Considering construction as one of the most resource-intensive and waste-generating activities, the search for solutions that minimize the negative environmental impacts generated, together with better resource management, becomes extremely important. Thus, the objective was to carry out a study on the management of excavated soils of works that originate mainly from excavations for foundations and adjustment of the natural topography of the land. For this, we used a methodology based on the construction of an inventory of excavated soil of five works, gathering information regarding the estimate of excavated material of each work, the source activity, packaging, and final destination, as well as about the classification, these soils according to the resolution and technical standard in force in Brazil. In addition, a soil sample from one of the investigated works was characterized based on the evaluation of some properties, such as particle size, liquidity limit, plasticity limit, compaction, and California Support Index, to verify if the soil presented the necessary parameters to be reused in pavements. The results show that the volume of soil generated can be applied in various sectors, such as waste landfills, pavements, expanded clay making and reinforced soil walls, provided they have the desired characteristics for such activities.
