REUSE OF DOMESTIC WASTE: CONTRIBUTIONS ON THE FAMILY INCOME FOR GARBAGE COLLECTORS FROM THE COOPERATIVES OF BELÉM-PARÁ

The present study consists of presenting the environmental and social projects for the recycling of urban solid waste, developed in the municipality of Belém-Pará. It is understood that it is essential to investigate the problem of reuse of solid urban waste, as its rates have increased significantly in recent years (ONU, 2019). In this investigation, the methodology adopted was bibliographic and field research, of an exploratory-explanatory nature, with emphasis on the importance of recycling and composting as a means of reducing the rates of urban solid waste. Through data collection, it was observed that the Municipality of Belém, in partnership with the Secretariat of Basic Sanitation, Cooperatives of Garbage Collectors and private companies, has been developing projects with the intention of reducing urban solid waste in the municipality, as well as the incentive for the sale of this waste, with the purpose of contributing to the family income of the collectors, linked to the mentioned cooperatives. As a result, it was found that the problem of urban solid waste is still considered serious, but it can be minimized through raising awareness among the population, as well as the integration of the federal, state and municipal spheres in the effective fulfillment of PNRS 12.305 /2010.
