Abstract
ABSTRACT
Due to the great growth of the automobile industry in Brazil, over the years, problems began with disposing of tires used by cars and trucks that were reaching the end of their useful life. Waste tires were generally not collected properly, causing environmental problems due to their burning, as well as public health problems, because when thrown in the open, they accumulate rainwater, allowing the creation of insects that transmit diseases such as dengue, malaria and yellow fever. As a way of reusing unusable tires without harming the environment and providing greater cost-benefit for the asphalt industry, the use of unusable tires as binders for the production of asphalt, called rubber asphalt, emerged, improving the properties of the asphalt. This work was based on bibliographical research that deals with the use of rubber from scrap tires through recycling, as binders for the manufacture of asphalt as one of the ways of its reuse. As the final disposal of tires is a socio-environmental problem, partnerships between public and private bodies are necessary to make it a profitable and environmentally friendly business.
