ABSTRACT
Recognizing basic sanitation as a right for everyone, as well as a condition and determinant of health, this research aimed to investigate the relationship between sanitation conditions in the city of Blumenau, SC and the health of the population, and analyze it from the perspective of the movement healthy city. This is a case study, of a theoretical nature and a qualitative-quantitative approach, developed by surveying and analyzing data available at the Autonomous Water and Sewage Service (SAMAE) and at the municipality's BRK Ambiental concessionaire; and together with the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS), Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and DataSUS platforms. Both positive points and areas requiring improvement were identified, in addition to periodic updating of available information. The need for constant investments in healthy public policies was highlighted, in order to recognize demands and qualify actions, favoring a better quality of life for residents and the conservation of local cultural and environmental heritage.
