Abstract
“As Brazil faces increasing challenges in sustainability, community integration, and quality of life, cohousing emerges as an innovative solution in the housing landscape. Based on collaborative economy and sociocracy, cohousing proposes a new way of living, combining privacy with community interaction, and focusing on solidarity, sustainability, and well-being. This housing model addresses the needs for flexibility and longevity, promoting social integration through shared spaces and collective workshops, reflecting the growing demand for intentional communities that value shared management of resources and common spaces. We will explore cohousing, highlighting its benefits, types (such as senior housing and ecological projects), and the characteristics that differentiate it from other forms of collective housing. We will analyze its development worldwide and in Brazil, the challenges faced, and the steps to develop a cohousing project. Success stories will serve as inspiration, inviting reflection on the viability of cohousing as the future of sustainable and community living in Brazil.”
