Abstract

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to analyze the agronomic and financial impacts of introducing soybean planting in lowlands on a property called Granja Jambolão in the municipality of Capivari do Sul. From a methodological point of view, the study refers to a mainly qualitative approach, with case study procedures, carried out on a local property seeking to understand to what extent the introduction of soybean cultivation in a crop rotation system with irrigated rice by the direct planting method can contribute to the agricultural development of the northern coastal region of RS. As a result, it was identified that the productivity of irrigated rice on the property had a significant increase, due to the increase in soil fertility left by the cultivation of soybeans, and it also obtained greater efficiency in the control of weeds due to the differentiation of environments between one crop and another. These results are attributed to the improvement in the profitability of the property, since the costs of management and soil preparation will be lower when compared to the system previously used. Therefore, it is concluded that soybeans in rotation with rice in the no-tillage system in the region will be an excellent alternative, because in addition to the technical benefits, it will also provide income diversification for the producers.
