Abstract

ABSTRACT

In Brazil, there are currently no regulatory norms regarding the handling and disposal methods of nanomaterials. Therefore, the theoretical foundation for this research was derived from organizations such as the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the United Kingdom NanoSafety Group (UKNSG), the University of California (UC), and the ISO/TS 12901-1:2012. Other references were also utilized to provide expertise in adapting to nanotechnology and nanomaterials. The purpose of this evaluation was to develop a procedures manual for the three nanotoxicology laboratories of the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNANO), located within the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), in the Barão Geraldo district of Campinas, São Paulo. Previously, the center followed the same waste management and treatment methodology used for hazardous chemical elements. Given that this laboratory is accessed not only by CNPEM staff but also by researchers from national and international universities, the intention was to make the developed guide available through brochures distributed strategically in the laboratories. These brochures include QR codes that, when scanned, direct users to an application containing the manual’s content in a user-friendly format, along with a brief video illustrating the key procedures outlined in the compendium
