Abstract
ABSTRACT
The high temperatures recorded in recent years on our planet are responsible for the increase in climate events that expose human life to risks that affect health. Adaptation actions have become indispensable, and private hospitals, a business sector with investment autonomy - unlike public hospitals - also need to adapt to these changes. Thus, this research aims to understand how the climate lens is inserted into the strategy and management of private hospitals in Brazil and to identify climate change adaptation actions carried out by these organizations in order to reduce impacts and risks arising from climate change. A qualitative approach was applied through a questionnaire and interviews with managers of private hospitals participating in the sustainability group of the Private Hospitals Association (Anahp). The research findings show that although hospitals are adopting many actions, both mitigation and adaptation, in the face of climate change, many opportunities could be explored or analyzed in all the themes explored in the research. In this sense, climate change needs to be included in risk analyses and strategic planning of organizations so that climate adaptation actions can be considered in business strategies. This work contributes to theory by deepening knowledge about the relationships between climate change and businesses in the health sector, and to practice by pointing out experiences and ways for adaptation to be included in decision-making and investments.
