Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to diagnose the Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) in Itumbiara-GO, assessing their conservation status and proposing measures for environmental preservation and recovery. The research focuses on the microbasins of the Água Suja, Trindade, and das Pombas streams, located within the urban perimeter of Itumbiara and belonging to the Meia Ponte River microbasin. These APPs are part of the Cerrado biome, characterized by vereda and riparian forest physiognomies. The adopted methodology included the analysis of 2023 satellite images, on-site inspections using a camera and a DJI MAVIC-2 drone equipped with a thermal sensor to identify occupations. The APPs were assessed based on their conservation status, classified into five categories: Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, and Optimal. The diagnosis revealed the degradation of these areas due to unplanned urbanization and irregular settlements, leading to pollution, biodiversity loss, and increased flooding. Most of the APPs are in fair or poor conditions, highlighting the lack of effective public policies. The study emphasizes the urgent need for planned interventions to balance environmental preservation and sustainable urban development, suggesting the implementation of management and environmental education strategies to improve the quality of life and protect natural resources.
