SELECTIVE COLLECTION EVALUATION IN VESPASIANO/MG FROM THE COPARE EXPERIENCE
Main Article Content
Abstract
The implementation of a successful system of selective collection at the municipal level represents a challenge in the Brazilian reality. This article aimed to evaluate this context in the municipality of Vespasiano/MG, from the perspective of the cooperatives of COPARE, a cooperative of local selective collection. This municipality was selected because it presented coverage of the selective collection of 100% according to data from the National Information System on Sanitation. Visits to the cooperative and consultations with the scientific base and norms pertinent to the theme were carried out. The results pointed out an important performance of the cooperative, evidencing the need for greater investment in the strategy to encourage the population's adhesion to the process of separation of recyclable waste, independent of religious beliefs. The selective collection coverage is high, but could not be presented as integral.
