Abstract

ABSTRACT

Riparian forests are known for their contribution to the quality of water resources, especially when serving for public supply. The research in Cabreuva, SP, aimed to compare stretches of presence and absence of riparian forest along a watershed, with the evaluation of water quality in physical, chemical and biological parameters. For physical and chemical analysis of the samples we used a kit of quick analysis, as for sediment collection for analysis of biomarkers used a sampler Surber with 900 cm2 area. They sampled 1182 individuals in 28 families of macrobentônicos during the dry season in 2023. The physicochemical results showed changes in turbidity, dissolved oxygen and water temperature in areas without vegetation. Biological results showed higher diversity of species preserved stretches with low dominance of groups resistant to impact and wealth of 955 individuals. Already in degraded stretches wealth was lower (227), and the presence of key biomarkers (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera) higher (368) in locations where there are favorable conditions against only 43 individuals in altered locations. Thus, it was possible to perceive the influence of vegetation in aquatic ecosystems, showing that concern for the conservation and recovery must be continuous.
