Abstract

This study aimed to analyze how environmental certifications contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the agricultural sector of Rio Grande do Sul, with in the framework of the 2030 Agenda. A qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research was conducted based on a literature review and analysis of secondary data from 2016 to 2024. The results show significant progress: the number of certified organic producers increased to 3,650, protected spring áreas reached 20,000 hectares, and irrigation efficiency reached 65%, reflecting advances in SDG 6 (Clean Waterand Sanitation). In SDG 7 (Afforda bleand Clean Energy), there was a growing use of renewable energy sources, with 82.2% of the state’s electricity matrix being renewable. SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) showed expansion of protected areas, producer training, trace ability, and reduction in pesticide use. SDG 13 (Climate Action) advanced with the implementation of the ABC+ RS Plan,  aiming to expand sustainable practices and reduce emissions. It is concluded that environmental certifications are effective tools to promote sustainable agricultural practices, streng then environmental management, and a lign the agricultural sector of Rio Grande do Sul with the 2030 Agenda goals, although incentives and public policies are still needed to broadem thei radoption.
