A RELAÇÃO ENTRE O SANEAMENTO BÁSICO E O CONTROLE DO AEDES AEGYPTI NO BRASIL: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BASIC SANITATION AND AEDES AEGYPTI CONTROL IN BRAZIL: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW
Main Article Content
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This integrative review aimed to identify the main contributions of the scientific literature on the relationship between basic sanitation and the proliferation of Aedes aegypti, in addition to mapping gaps and advances in the field, with a focus on vector prevention and control strategies. The research followed six methodological steps, based on the acronym PICO to formulate the guiding question: "How has the scientific literature addressed the relationship between basic sanitation and the proliferation of Aedes aegypti in Brazil?" The databases consulted were LILACS, SciELO, PubMed, BVS, and the CAPES Journal Portal. Studies in Portuguese and English, published between 2015 and 2025, that met the eligibility criteria were included. The final sample comprised 14 articles. The results indicate that Aedes aegypti has adapted to new environments, including places with little accumulated water. The lack of basic sanitation, especially urban drainage, water supply, and waste collection, directly contributes to the proliferation of the vector. On the other hand, improvements in sanitation infrastructure are considered effective vector control strategies. It is essential that public policies integrate sanitation and environmental education initiatives, combined with the reduction of social inequalities and intersectoral action, aiming to promote public health and environmental protection.
