Abstract

This article analyzes sustainability within the private sector, highlighting its importance in the current scenario characterized by worsening environmental degradation, changes in global economies, and shifts in consumer attitudes. Although the concept of sustainability is widely known, challenges remain related to the overexploitation of natural resources, increasing social inequalities, and the demand for more ethical production models. In this context, organizations play a fundamental role in promoting sustainable development by incorporating environmental, social, and governance practices into their management operations. The study is classified as qualitative, with a descriptive and explanatory approach, based on a literature review that includes books, academic articles, and reports from institutions available in both national and international databases. The investigation examines fundamental concepts such as the Triple Bottom Line, ESG indicators, and the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE), aiming to understand how these tools favor the competitiveness and longevity of organizations. The findings suggest that the implementation of sustainable practices in the private sector is linked to reduced operating costs, improved institutional image, enhanced financial performance, and increased investor and consumer confidence. Thus, it is concluded that sustainability has evolved from a mere ethical obligation to a crucial strategic component for companies, simultaneously favoring the creation of economic value, environmental protection, and social progress.
