ECO-VIGILÂNCIA NA CAATINGA: UM MODELO DE EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL SENTINELA PARA ZOONOSES EM PAISAGENS FRAGMENTADAS ECO-SURVEILLANCE IN THE CAATINGA: A SENTINEL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION MODEL FOR ZOONOSES IN FRAGMENTED LANDSCAPES

Abstract
Caatinga fragmentation hás intensified the human–animal interface, promoting the emergence of zoonoses through the ecological reorganization of vectors and reservoirs in degraded landscapes. In this context, this study aimed to propose a Sentinel Environmental Education model as na eco-surveil lance strategy in fragmented landscapes. This is na integrative literature review conducted between October 2025 and March 2026, based on 306 initially identified studies, of which 30 composed the final corpus after eligibility criteria. The results show that fragmentation acts as na environmental filter, leading to trophic simplification, predator loss, and the proliferation of adaptable vectors, there by increasing zonotic risks. It was also observed that traditional surveillance systems are limited by institutional fragmentation and low sectoral integration. The discussion high lights that incorporating the One Health paradigm and participatory approaches is essential to address the complexity of emerging risks. In this sense, the Sentinel Environmental Education model proposes communities as active agents in detecting early signals of ecological imbalance. It is concluded that participatory eco-surveillance represents a promising strategy to streng then socio-ecological resilience in semi-aridregions, requiring there configuration of integrated and territorialized public policies.
