Abstract
ABSTRACT
This article discusses how affective bonds with territory-understood here through the notion of topophilia-articulated with urban memory, subjective experiences, and collective participatory practices, can contribute to the promotion of mental health and climate resilience among children and adolescents living in vulnerable territories. It is grounded in the recognition that climate emergencies intensifies historical inequalities, exacerbates urban precarities, and affects the sense of belonging, with significant psychological and social repercussions. The text brings together contributions from urban studies, mental health, critical race theory, psychoanalysis, social memory and political anthropology to support the hypothesis that strengthening meaningful bonds with place can enhance dispositions toward environmental care, cooperation, and collective action. In dialogue with authors such as Yi-Fu Tuan,Gregory Bateson, Walter Benjamin, Serge Moscovici, Pierre Clastres, Silvio Almeida, Emiliano David, Luiz Marques and Alexandre Nodari, a methodological pathway is proposed, inspired by post-normal science and participatory practices involving children and adolescents.
