Abstract

Initially, I would like to express my gratitude to the invitation of the Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Environment & Sustainability, Jairo Afonso Henkes, for the opportunity to introduce, in this important academic journal, a topic of great relevance, with reflections on “Environment, Development and Sustainability”... When we talk about this today, our problem starts here... in the concepts... In Geography, for example, Man is part of the environment. In other thematic areas, no, or yes... Development... what development are we talking about? There are models and models... As well as the issue of Sustainability, dependent on the implementation of new (or old and traditional) methods that are less aggressive to the environment. However, although from different perspectives, technically and scientifically, we research, discuss, disagree, dealing with the scientific point of view, in data analysis, methods, models, time scales, etc... We continue to evolve with Science, however, there is the legal issue, in a normative framework that supports decision-making, competences, and the roles of institutions... And it's all part of a political proposal. The definition of the policy with direction and institutional normative framework to follow.
