Abstract

Concern for the environment has been increasing and incorrectly disposed waste contributes relatively to many of the existing environmental problems. Among the types of solid waste generated by man, hospital waste is one of the most worrying. In the municipality of São Luís, State of Maranhão, there are 07 highly complex hospitals that have a very high daily waste generation. Among these hospitals in São Luís, 05 are public and need to have a good Health Services Waste Management (RSS) system to avoid environmental data and risks to human health. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the packaging of infectious waste from public hospitals of high complexity in São Luís - Maranhão. For data collection, monitoring was carried out at a company that collects and disposes of infectious waste through photographic record, use of waste manifest, control in excell spreadsheets and report of improperly packaged waste. Thus, it can be mentioned, through the obtained data, the hospitals that make adequate packaging of SSR and those that have evidence of inadequate packaging. Hospital A has the highest evidence of improperly packaged waste such as multiple occurrences of liquids. The goal to improve packaging is to implement the Health Care Waste Management Plan (PGRSS) and follow up on health waste management, seeking the quality of services.
